Snatches of Sunshine
By Thorsten | Company | No Comments
Today we all went to the lawyer (or to the civil law notary, to be more precise) to officially establish the company. So we now have completed the notarial act (which is good) but need to undergo the official further process (wich is bad). It’s quite a lot of paperwork… Okay, we are based out of Germany, so this is where Teutonic thoroughness gets into the game - seems as if almost everybody needs to get involved in founding Gate 53|10 Technologies and put his date stamp on any sheet of paper.
Anyway, it was a fairly sunny day in Hamburg. Not exactly a crucial factor but probably a good sign when founding a company.

Bar-grown Evolution

Bar-grown Mind Map
Just thought I should continue on the topic how it all get started. Here we go with Part #2:
Once back home from our trip to France we spent quite a few nights in a bar in Hamburg to evolve the idea (yup, you are right - alcohol was involved here, most often Cuba Libre). Actually this status lasted for a couple of months (evolving the idea, not drinking alcohol). The one or the other Friday night we marked down some of our ideas on notepads we grabbed from the bar. Finally we were more than confident we collected enough fundamental ideas to get down to prototyping. That was roughly in May/June 2008.
To be continued …

100% and 7/24/365
By Thorsten | Company | No Comments
Today was our last official day at Versant where we worked for quite a couple of years. So, as of today, we are capable of working not only with full commitment to our venture but also in full time!
Some weeks ago, it was time for a tough call at first glance: Quitting a permanent employment for founding your own business is not as easy as one might assume, totally irrespective of the potential value of your idea. Last but not least, because it translates into ‘Start-up Poverty’ instead of ‘Recurring $$’ in one go. However, as brilliant and at the same time prosperous ideas do not grow on trees, as we believe in the power of interdisciplinary creativity within the team, the tough call relatively immediately became an easy call. So we finally decided for advancing the concept in a professional way.
Considering the economic environment these days and the golden opportunity on the other hand, we are aware of the fact that there are marvelous, doubtful, funny, shaky, instable, nice, ugly, thrilling, weird, suspenseful, scary, nerdy, gorgeous and - most of all - exciting times ahead. And we are looking forward to coping with these.

Born in a Renault Sportster
By Thorsten | Company | No Comments
The Future is Now. But how did it all get started?
The very initial idea for what we do now at Gate 53|10 occurred to Oliver and me back in autumn 2007 while heading towards Nice (Cote d’Azur, France) on the French “Autobahn” A8. Basically, we were discussing a couple of Web 2.0 services, if these are usefull and/or meaningfull, how we use the Internet, and what’s a pain in the neck surfing the web. All of sudden, we weren’t talking about existing stuff anymore but shaping a wish list on a certain type of service. So, actually we were sort of putting together the very first feature list at this point of time (we didn’t realize this back then though).
Anyway… as a matter of fact, a rental car - a Renault sportster to be more exact - became the breeding ground for what we do today at Gate 53|10.
